SILVICULTURE

If not natural, the forest is planted by foresters. Silviculture is one of the primary objectives of forest management. Sustainable and diversified forest management in is based on the forest management plan. Its goal is to ensure the biological diversity, productivity, ability to regenerate, proper life span and correct ecological functions of the forest. The plan has to comply with the conditions and processes of nature.

Silviculture is to preserve and enrich existing forests (regeneration) and to create new ones (afforestation). It requires a good deal of knowledge of nature, e.g. from fields such as: climatology, pedology, botany, plant physiology. The choice of right procedures for forest regeneration and nurturing and afforestation of non-forest areas secure the continuity of forests. A forest with nature-like conditions, is a forest that's naturally diversified, healthy, and resistant to dangers. Such forest is the most desirable model of a forest in silviculture.  For this reason, in their silvicultural works, rangers aim to adapt the species structure of a given forest, to the local.

In the Sulechów Forest District forest management plan, the planned afforestation area is 565.56 ha. After 10 years, the afforested are has reached 325.43 ha, which means that 57% of the plan has been carried out. New forest was planted on the area of 173.35 ha of non-forest land. As the planned area of afforestation of non-forest lands was 109.88 ha, the plan was carried out in 157.76%.  All the work was done on lands not used for agriculture.

Two seed production stands have been organised within the area of the forest district, in Klenica Sub-district: family plantation of pine from Tabórz (4.55ha) and clone plantation of pine from Tabórz (5.82 ha). In Sulechów Sub-district there are also three plantations of fast-growing trees with an overall area of 6.83 ha.
